Projects
The
Welcoming Programme, every Wednesday from 8.30am
to 11.30am at 5 The Avenue in Woodstock, is as a support structure
for newly arrived refugees. Food rations, clothes, blankets are
distributed bi-monthly and assistance in finding accommodation is
offered. Refugees also receive legal advice on procedure required
by the Department of Home Affairs. An English school offering 3
levels of English training runs daily for refugees from French or
Portuguese speaking countries.

| Lawrence
House, established in April 2005 is a double-storey
12 bed-roomed home, in Woodstock, Cape Town for orphaned refugee
children This project educates and cares for 24 children.

The
Children of the ARK, is a shelter for the homeless
in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. Most of the children now living at
Lawrence House came from this shelter. Still living at the ARK are
a number of older teenagers and 20 new children between 10 months
and 10 years old. This project offers support to these children
in form of counseling, food parcels, clothes and blankets and financial
support for vocational training on completion of their schooling.

Ale’s
House, a new home specifically for teenagers, where
they can develop a life-style reflecting to their own needs and
dreams. The home aims to allow age appropriate daily routines
and support to develop a strategy for their future in society. |

Kilema,
is a disabled support group, giving the members an opportunity
to develop their skills through training and
networking with other local NGOs working with South African disabled,
thus enabling and enhancing a smooth integration into the local
communities.

The
IT and Life Skills Training Course offers training
and life plan support to 240 unemployed over a period of 12 months
with the ultimate goal of placement into learner ships or assistance
in developing sustainable livelihoods for at least 30% of participants.

Voyage
Ensemble is a traveling visual art exhibition and
a film documentary showcasing the work of twelve artists (six
refugees and six South Africans) with the specific aim of integrating
the displaced refugees into the South African arts network and
working against xenophobia.

The
Percussion Academy enters disadvantaged schools
teaching marimba building and drum making. These instruments are
then given to the school as well as offering a 9 week intensive
music training with professional musicians for both students and
the teacher. The ultimate aim of the project is to foster a Schools
Percussion Festival or Eisteddfod for the Western Cape.

Migration
Resource Centre (MRC), focusing in the SADC region
and in the sending countries such as DRC, Congo Brazzaville, Burundi.
The Centre will have a two-pronged approach, joining theory and
practice, dealing with both the academic and the popular aspects
of Migration, while the Legal Desk will join research and practice.
The MRC is supported by ASCS (the European Scalabrini Agency for
Cooperation and Development) and Scaminet (the International Scalabrini
NGOs Network).
